My Thursday on Maui

Yesterday I took an island hopper over to Maui. It was my first time on Island Air...the smaller propellar planes...which I had to take since I was flying into Kapalua/West Maui. My best friend Courtney's mother, Kim, and her boyfriend Dean were in town so they picked me up at the airport and we headed to the new Ritz-Carlton Residential Suites at the Kapalua Resort.

The Ritz is under renovation but still open for business. The lobby looks very island modern and opens to an expansive view, a trademark for Ritz-Carltons, flanked by a very quaint sushi restaurant on the left and a chic new bar on the right. We were tempted to have lunch on the lanai but Paul, our Kapalua tour guide, suggested the Plantation House...and the blackened ahi benedict and ocean views were divine! Priority reservations are due today at 5pm..if you missed it let me know as I submitted a reservation which is good for two units if chosen. There are only 107 whole ownerships units available so pickings are slim!

We were going to head out to Iao Valley for a hike after lunch but we detoured over to the Wailea/Makena coast...we stopped by my cousin's beach house in Makena and then walked next door to baby beach. Carolee was at the house when we went back to the car and I always love seeing her...she rocks. So, we ended up on a short hike at the end of the road, past the A'a (a type of jagged lava). Next thing we knew we had to head to Kahului to catch my flight back to Oahu..but we made some time for a stop at Longhis at The Shop at Wailea. I didn't even know there was one there...it's right under Tommy Bahamas...where we ate with Patrick and Dawn last time we were in Makena. If you've never been to Makena...go.
